The Border Film Meetings intend to bring together representatives of festivals, film series and showcases and other neighbouring Portuguese / Spanish audiovisual institutions, such as film clubs and universities, with the objective of creating networks for exchange and collaboration, the promotion and disclosing of border-related cinema and to encourage cultural and institutional dialogue across the borders. The Border Film Meetings are gearing up for their third edition, having started on December 7, 2017 in the Forum of Audiovisual Debates subordinated to the theme Frontier, in the first edition of the Short Films Festival of Verin; Its second edition was held at the Carlos Velo International Rural Film Festival in Ourense on March 31, 2017.
The Border Film Meetings already have the participation of film clubs AO NORTE, of Viana do Castelo; Verin and Carlos Feijoo film clubs of Ourense and the Chaves film club. In addition, the network had the participation of relevant cultural agents from the bordering regions.
For the third edition of the Border Film Meetings, it is intended to extend these contacts to other personalities and institutions of the border such as the Universities of Santiago of Compostela, Vigo and Minho and Galician and Portuguese film clubs.
The third edition of the Border Film Meetings, held during the Filmes do Homem Film Festival 2017, will thus feature two events: the Border Cinema Meeting, on August 4 at the House of Culture of Melgaço, which aims to enlist representatives of film clubs, film festivals and universities present at the event in the sharing of experiences and expectations; and the presentation by Aser Alvarez of the book "Arraiano entre os Arraianos", by Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín.
